Missions
A commitment to Christ and his church is a commitment to his mission.
The church exists for this purpose –- to proclaim the gospel of Christ in the power of the Spirit so that people trust in Christ as Saviour and Lord and serve him in the fellowship of his church. “To be baptized into Christ,” said Lesslie Newbigin, “is to be baptized into his mission."
In the early church, the apostles went to the centers of commerce and trade, to the centers of transportation, to tourist and immigrant destinations, and to the centers of religion and great learning.
As a daughter of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, the mission policy of Trinity Church emphasizes the starting of new churches (“church planting”) in influential urban centers, especially the NYC metro area. Along with this emphasis on urban church planting, we combine two other primary challenges to the expansion of Christ’s mission today: training of national pastors so they may minister more effectively in their own culture, and equipping the next generation to follow Christ. Thus, the missional goal for Trinity Church –- “Christ for Metro New York” –- reflects our 4 emphases in missions: Church-planting, Metro areas, Nationals, and Youth. Consequently, our church mission policy seeks projects with these emphases.
