Mercy
Awareness of God’s free grace given to us in Christ motivates us to pursue justice and mercy in this fallen world, where all people suffer and need grace. Christ has freely given to us, and so we turn and freely give to others. In this posture, our Mercy Team (“MT”) leads the Mercy Ministry of Trinity Church so as to encourage our church community more and more to be people of:
- Humility, Compassion & Diligence –
Serving others with dignity and respect;
- Hospitality, Care & Loving Kindness –
As though we are doing so for the Lord; and
- Reliance on Christ –
For forgiveness, wisdom and strength to serve.
The MT pursues wholistic, “deed and word” ministry so as to further God’s kingdom in two directions:
Internally
To assist those in and around our Trinity Church family who are in need of help
- This work is one-on-one, “behind the scene”, and confidential
- This support can be physical (helping someone move), financial (budget analysis; financial aid), spiritual/emotional (counseling), and more
- Although Trinity Church Community Groups provide the primary pastoral care for our church family, the MT serves as a secondary “safety net” for those not yet in a Community Group.
Externally
To further our church’s involvement in mercy ministry outside our church, we:
- Educate and train our congregants about mercy ministry
- Identify and communicate service opportunities
- Connect interested people to community resources
- Serve community organizations of mercy such as:
- Birthright International (birthright.org)
- Hope House (hdsw.org/hope.html ),
- Midtown Pregnancy Support Center (mpsc.org)
- Hillside Food Outreach (hillsidefoodoutreach.org)
- Participate in seasonal events such as:
- His Toy Store (vimeo.com/15641006)
- Angel Tree (angeltree.org)
- Operation Christmas Child (samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/).
- Welcome your participation in our church’s Mercy Ministry. Contact our church office for more information.
What We Pray For (please pray with us)
- Hearts of compassion, committed to serving faithfully those in need
- Fellowship with God and His people, through Jesus Christ, for those in need
- Development of meaningful relationships in our church family and in the community, for those in need
- Transformed lives, resolved conflicts, mended relationships and wise plans for the future, for those in need
- Service to others, motivated by Christ’s love, by those whom we have served
- Development of an effective MT organization with people to fulfill the roles and responsibilities needed
- Wise and faithful evaluation of our community affiliates that seek greater volunteer opportunities
How We Are Funded
The Mercy Ministry is not a part of the annual operating budget of Trinity Church. Instead, the Mercy Ministry depends on our church’s annual Easter Sacrificial Offering (“ESO”) for its funding. Each Easter Season, the leadership of Trinity Church asks its members and congregants to consider prayerfully a special, sacrificial contribution to the ESO. Although we emphasize our church’s Mercy Ministry during the Easter Season, Trinity Church receives designated donations for its Mercy Ministry year-round.
Please consider prayerfully a contribution to this year’s ESO in order to continue our Mercy Ministry.
[Y]ou will always give effortlessly to that which is your salvation, to those things which give your life meaning. If Jesus is the one who saved you, your money [and, we could add, our time and energy] flows out easily into His work, His people, His causes. If, however, your real religion is your appearance, or your social status, or personal comfort, or pleasure, your money [and time and energy] flows most easily into those items and symbols.
—Amy L. Sherman, “Sharing God’s Heart for the Poor,” quoting “Giving Power” by Timothy Keller
